Bristol Pre-Conservatoire is seeking a new Artistic Director
P/T role, c. 6 hrs/pw, including 3 hrs on Wednesday evenings (BS9) during term-time
£250 pw during term time
Founded in 2012, as an independent social enterprise, the Bristol Pre-Conservatoire is looking for a new artistic director to take it into its next chapter, working alongside its Programme Manager and team of expert tutors.
We are looking primarily for a visionary educator and educationalist: someone who can lead from the front, inspire students and staff, as well as having a deep understanding of the musical education landscape in Bristol and beyond.
Bristol Pre-Conservatoire is a prestigious evening school that provides training for advanced young classical and jazz musicians aged 13-19, focussing on creative musicianship and chamber/small ensemble skills. It exists to build on the curriculum and provide an opportunity for talented musicians to be challenged and to learn together at the highest level possible, ensuring they are well positioned to apply for conservatoire if desired.
The ideal candidate will keep this distinct vision of creative musicianship at the heart of the Pre-Conservatoire’s identity, as well as happily cross boundaries of musical styles, keeping the whole cohort engaged and learning from each other.
Essentials:
- Availability on Wednesday evenings for delivery and for planning hours in addition
Experienced coach of chamber skills (classical, jazz or both) - Relevant management experience
- Knowledge of music education sector, local and national
- Enthusiastic communicator
- Enhanced DBS check
Desirables:
- The ability to lead practical creative workshops
- Connections to potential partners
- Knowledge of tertiary provision, particularly conservatoires
Shortlisted candidates will be required to lead a 15-minute creative workshop with our students on Wednesday 21st May in the evening (between 6.30pm-7.30pm), followed by an interview.
