Sue is an experienced musician, creative producer, events and operations manager. She was a professional viola player in the Hallé and initially made the move from player to manager by managing the Halle’s 6 youth ensembles, which include several UK and national tours, before joining the orchestra’s artistic team as Pops Planner. Highlights included working with Guy Garvey and Elbow, managing the DRC youth choir and orchestra’s visit to Manchester for the BBC4 documentary ‘Congo Calling’, introducing multi- media events and film with live orchestra titles to the Hallé as well as creating bespoke programmes for Bluedot Festival, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall and Lyon Opera. Sue also programmed both the Sheffield International and Blackburn Concert seasons, grew and developed the Halle’s professional experience string scheme in collaboration with the Royal Northern College of Music and was Sir Mark Elder’s PA in Manchester. Since moving to the south-west she has also held the position of music programmer for Broadway Arts Festival. She is the booking agent for various independent artists including the UK jazz singer Clare Teal, is currently Executive Director of both the Elgar Festival and the English Symphony Orchestra and runs a production company creating concert packages for national orchestras. After a short break away after 6 years as Programme Manager with Jon James she’s delighted to be returning to the Pre-Con family!
